perspective
So it's been one of those mornings. Woke up to technical difficulties and just an overall worried, blech-ness about the day and life. Then, adding insult to injury, I experienced one of the most insulting people I've encountered in a while. Maybe years. I was feeling a little like the morning's punching bag. So overloaded, and lured by the amazing day outside, I decided to grab the iPod and try to run it out. Seemed like a more productive option than crying; and it was. The wind has a way of blowing away your tears. Well, that + a little Soundgarden, cranked up loud enough to drown out dismal thinking.
When I got back, my situation was the same. But clear air, clears the mind, and I gained a perspective that made me a little thankful for my shitty morning. Doesn't gratitude always make everything better? It makes us aware of the Abundance that is always surrounding us, regardless of whether we acknowledge it. Suddenly, I was able to see how lucky I am, specifically...to be in the profession that I'm in. The visual nature of it, lends itself to one display after another, of "look what I did!", followed often by, "Wow, great job!". And in my industry, it seems natural. Because these days the web IS a photographer's storefront. It's the main way we display, and advertise, and communicate. I usually don't give it a thought. However, when you put it into perspective, how lucky are WE?! I mean, how would it be if your accountant blogged about each of her client's tax returns? "Look what I did! Here's Mr. Smith, my next client who owes $4000 this year!" There are people saving lives, arresting bad guys, delivering babies, researching cures for cancer, delivering mail. For goodness sakes, my husband is saving AT&T over 32 million dollars this year. And he along with all the other everyday heroes probably won't even get a thank you. Yet, I get to hear it all the time...for doing something I LOVE to do, no less! And so it inspires me to send each and everyone out there a big fat THANK YOU back. THANK YOU for taking time out of your busy lives to read this blog. Thank you especially if you've ever taken the time to leave a nice comment. I read ALL of them, and get happy every time I see a new one. Most of all, thank you to all of my AMAZING clients who have supported me over the years. YOU have made it possible for me to live a life which combines passion and purpose. For that, I am truly blessed, and so THANKFUL.
However, that's not to say that I'm not still counting down until Happy Hour with the girls tonight, to celebrate Robyn's birthday. Maybe I should add that to my perspective-changing recipe: The sun + wind + running + Soundgarden + GRATITUDE + happy hour = A Happier Place
*This photo was taken while Grammy and Ashley were here visiting. Ashley's interested in photography, so I took her out for a crash course. I think she may have even taken this shot....Good job Ash! xo

P.S. I'm getting the itch to get away and I want to come to SA meet my invisible friend soon!
And what you wrote is so true...I feel the same way. :) This is really the best job ever.
Great post. Seems like job stress comes in waves but Jackie has always reminded me about perspective. Kids just want their daddy to love them. Period. Thank God for family. BTW - My daughter has those same shoes :)
