Neely
Warning: long post, grab a chair.
I went to see Neely, over at Fourseasons yesterday.
You may know that besides being a photographer, I'm also a makeup artist. My relationship with makeup goes WAY back. As a kid, I hated dolls except to give them make-overs. I don't remember most birthdays, ballet performances, or even the day I got my driver's license. But I VIVIDLY remember the first day I put on eye shadow. To this day, opening a new box is like a religious experience. You know, when it's all pretty and perfect, and you feel guilty for disturbing it.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a makeup artist so badly that I would go to Glitter and Glamour (a Glamourshots knock-off in the mall) and BEG them to hire me. The owner finally realized I wasn't going away, and I was in HEAVEN when she hired me. It was then that my makeup crush became a full-fledged love affair. Because I saw SO MANY TIMES how people would be transformed. It just makes you sit taller, and look at the world more squarely, and I like that. I also love makeup because it's that ONE thing I KNOW I do well. It's the thing I don't question. And I second-guess everything. My ability as a photographer, my decisions as a mother, my choice in laundry detergent. But makeup is my comfort zone.
So, all of this is so you know where I'm coming from when I tell you that, I have found THEE MOTHERLOAD of all makeup lines (release the doves and cue the choir please)
You guys (well girls) this is the best makeup that I have EVER worn EVER. It's called Glo.
How do I love it, let me count the ways. For one, the company's tag line is "makeup with a higher purpose". This means that not only does it look hot, but it's actually GOOD for your skin.
(*Sidenote, I was really going in to see Neely for her her special superpower Photo Facial. It felt like someone was pelting my face with rubberbands, but it was worth it to know that pieces of my pregnancy mask are going to fall off.*)
Anyway, RIGHT AFTER she did this pretty intense treatment, when my skin was all exposed and pores all open...SHE PUT ON THE FOUNDATION (pictured here in POWDER form which I love). No moisturizer, no prepping...because it's THAT good for you. And I have never in my life used a foundation that sat so naturally on my skin. It also looked BETTER as the day went on! She said it's because most makeup companies are serving you up a bowl of TALCUM POWDER in your products. Which suffocates your skin and makes everything cake up. This foundation lays on your skin like "fish scales"...meaning that it sits nice a purty like a warm blanket. Not like talcum spackle. And SAME for the lip gloss. You know how everyone LOVES MAC? Well, I found out today. Want to know WHY their lipgloss is called lipGLASS...because THAT is one of its ingredients! Gross! Plus, the Glo gloss was the non-stickiest, longest lasting that I have ever worn. AND it's all reasonably priced!
I swear I'm trying to keep this short. But I still have to tell you about my other treasure. And I say treasure because I have been on a hunt for this since my nurse friend (who worked for a plastic surgeon) told me about it four years ago. I always hated my skin. And it was like a legend in my mind as she'd say, "The only thing that ever worked was OBAGI". Obagi, Obagi....it was so illusive to me because I didn't know how to buy it, or find it, and half the time I'd forget the name. But then the doves were released again yesterday because they carry it. Can you hear the organ playing the hallelujah harmony? Aaaahhhhh.....
This is the skin care line of ALL skin care lines. No other skin care line can compare because it's ILLEGAL to make something this good without a prescription. The way Neely described it today was that your cells have memory. Meaning that even when you get a chemical peel done (which I have had many), it looks good for a minute. But your cells keep remembering how to produce more of their damaged selves. This product line changes your skin on a CELLULAR level. Making it healthy from the inside out. How cool is that?
So seriously you guys, if there is something about your skin that you don't like, or if you want to start using a new kick-ass makeup line that is actually good for you, CALL HER! She doesn't rub expensive (pointless) smelly lotions on your face. And you will see actual results. (210) 593-0700
