Land of Suburbia
So, I got an email from the HOA this week saying the neighborhood was having a garage sale. Jason bought a permit in case we felt like throwing some crap items out onto the driveway. I was half-hearted about it because I knew Paul and Kristi were driving down from Dallas Friday night and we'd be out on the porch until 1am. Well traffic made them late, and it had been so long since we last visited, that we ended up out there until TWO AM. In my head, the garage sale was cancelled. Then I woke up at 7 to a man carrying my book shelf into his truck. Mr. Four Hours Of Sleep had already sold half of the garage. He was literally conducting it like an auction saying things like, "Hi everyone, just want to let you know, whoever buys this bag of clothes, gets all the couches for $100!" No one touched the clothes (is that a hint?). Anyway, I knew I had to get down there before he started selling off all my prized possessions. Like the chandelier I'm going to hang someday. And the bookshelf I'm going to find a spot for. OH WAIT. He ALREADY SOLD THAT. But somehow he managed to avoid the ELEPHANT of a BRAND NEW punching bag that we bought 2 years ago, which has never been used. Hmm...
So this is what it looked like when I walked downstairs. This is Jason's desperate shadow begging San Antonio to PLEASE PLEASE buy the couches that have been haunting our garage for months. An hour into it, he was down to $50 for the whole set.
Chance was having the TIME OF HIS LIFE at his lemonade stand. While Annie sampled the merchandise.
With EVERY car that passed, he'd say, "This is my next customer!" People could not resist him. Oh, except for the lady (in the ESCALADE) who talked him down to 25 cents. (Are you kidding me?)
He had to claim a loss on this bottle. But in his defense, it WAS getting HOT!
The girls and I beat the heat by coloring in the shade.
I love how concentrated she is here.
Eventually, (by 10:00) even Jason was sick of it, so we did what we always do when we have garage sales.
And the perfect family drove up right after we posted the sign. They were so happy. And so were we, because 1. They had bought 4 cups of lemonade from Chance (which made his day) and 2. They were cleaning out our whole garage for us! They, and Jason kept repeating to each other "GRACIAS!" "NO, NO GRACIAS A USTED!"
WOOHOO!!! Good Saturday.
And we (Jason The Auctioneer) made almost $200 today, even after giving half of it away. THAT is how nasty our garage was. Chance made $11.50! He was so excited that he didn't want to come inside. So Jason "bought his business" for $5.00 and then closed it down. Those damn corporations. Always shutting down the little guy! :0)
AND we even get to see Paul and Kristi again tonight! Even BETTER Saturday. Hope you're all having a great weekend too. :0)

Remember the garage sale in Sebu' where you had maybe twelve items and people had to walk down the narrow alley driveway to look at your stuff? There we sat on bar stools staring with eager, plastered-on smiles as everyone made the un-feng-shui trek to the pittance. Finally Jason provided his comic relief when he started inventing "What if..." scenarios. The "What if..." that knocked us off our stools in tears was "What if I had a bull-horn followed people down the driveway announcing the great deals in their ear?"
Chance the entrepreneur! I love him! And the girls. Wish I was there.
