This was going to be a short post.
I started getting disenchanted with my hair stylist about a year ago. But couldn't make the break because she wasn't horrible. She was like that boyfriend who doesn't beat you or cheat on you, but you still want to leave him and you don't know why. To make matters worse, one of my good friends, Courtney goes to her and her hair always looks fabulous...could have something to do with the fact that she actually goes every 6 weeks, but that was part of my problem. I will never make it to a salon that often, so I kept asking her to please make my hair darker and she would say "sure" and then give me highlights. Again. And again. And again. And then I'd say 'maybe next time we can go darker' and she'd say 'sure, but I don't think you will like it'. Agh!!
But she still wasn't horrible enough to just jump into the arms of another stylist. Because what if that stylist was worse?! I would have had to come running back to the ex, begging her to not only take me back but to restore me back to mediocre! Much too risky.
In the mean time, I'd be at work and as you know hairstyling and makeup artisty is included with my sessions. Well every time I saw someone with good highlights I'd ask who did their hair. 3 times in like 4 months my clients said, "Nicole at Glow". Then it became a joke. When someone would come in with good hair I would say, "Who does your hair? Let me guess...Nicole at Glow?" Can you believe the answer was 3 more times YES!!! I could literally recognize her highlights on strangers. So, I obviously needed to make the leap. But that was during the holiday season. And all I did during the holidays was work and breathe...and and sometimes not even the latter. And since she is good, it's hard to get in with her. So I kept putting it off, until my roots looked like a Jerry Springer guest.
Well yesterday...drum roll please...I FINALLY GOT IN TO SEE THE LEGENDARY NICOLE OF GLOW. And guess what? When I told her that I wanted to go darker, she actually made my hair darker. And I do not look like Christina Aguilera (before she decided she lives in a skanky version of the 20s). Anyway, it was an absolute miracle. Plus, as it turns out she is also fun to talk to. I'm in heaven! Ok, and there is more good news. I have a client who came to me about a month ago for her maternity portraits who happens to work there too. Her name is Tonie. She's on maternity leave now, but Nicole said she does awesome hair too and has learned a lot from her since she started at the salon. I totally struck gold and had to pass it on. So here's the 411:
Glow Hair Salon and Spa, 2815 North Loop 1604 (the shopping center at Redland and 1604), 494-2617
So, after all that build up are you dying to see a picture of my hair? Well you're going to have to wait until the website is launched. I'm actually going to have pictures taken of myself this weekend. Pigs are flying somewhere.
K, one more note. Some of you know that I'm also a manicurist and I did nails for a minute when we first moved here. Well, if you need a good nail lady, email me and I'll send you her contact info. She is the best. Her fills are around 45 minutes, they do not lift even after 3 weeks, and she even knows how to shape them to flatter your hands. I even recognized her nails on someone at Super Suppers once!
