The Mighty Mighty Hair Bush
Last night I washed my hair and I was too lazy to brush it out. I let it dry naturally, tangles and all. This morning I finally brushed it and it looks like I am wearing a tumbleweed. It's a big, blonde pile of frizz...like a hippy man who lives on the river. I went to the grocery store like this, without even a shred of makeup...because when your hair is this jacked up, why try? On top of all that, I've been sick for the last decade, so my nose is bright red and chaffed. Gross, I hate that word "chaffed"...but that's what it is. I thought I would avoid the possibility of stranger small-talk, by repulsing them with my hair-bush. But I'm trying to be healthy so I had to stop at the fish counter to get salmon. This meant I was going to have to make eye contact with at least one human. I debated, but the Omega 3s are worth it. Plus I thought, "So what? I've got frizzy hair and no makeup on. Big whoop". Then the fish lady came out to help me. The fish lady who has 4 teeth and wears a hair net every day, gave me the once over with a "yuck" verdict. Under her breath, "...is there something you want?" (before you steal the lobster out of our tank)...No I just came for the fish smell.
But my mom always told me that if you feel ugly, just smile bigger. Which in itself makes me laugh because I'm picturing a toothy grin on a hobbit. But I did. I smiled to where it was almost a laugh because I was thinking of my mom's advice, and asked for 3 salmon steaks. She goes, "How big do YOU think a salmon steak is?" and then gave me the stink eye like, I can't believe this hippy river-man/woman has the nerve to come up to my glorious fish counter. And she was probably right too. It goes to show how no matter how we don't want to judge by appearance, we all do it. Including me. Like one day when I'm all put together I'll be like, "God yes...you need to have pride in ownership...dress for success...paint those toe nails...put on those lashes girl!!" And then when I have tumbleweed hair and a chaffed nose, I'm like, "You know, people should really judge you based on what's inside". :-) too funny!
Ok, I know it's been a lot of words lately. I promise some pictures soon. The truth is that Christmas wore me and my camera out. But we're both ready to come out of the sebatical now. Plus there are lots of exciting things happening in our online world. I've been working on the new site and still hope to have it go "live" within the month, so stay tuned. You might be in the gallery!
